Day 5 - Disaster on the Westerstraat

So... Day 5 and Im still alive... and actually getting into this lazy life a little too easily. I am currently collapsed on a friends sofa watching the 'E' Channel with no idea where I will sleep tonight. Its 7 pm, I have already had a drink and I think I might just have another! I am a true Hobo.

Well something exciting did happen on Day 5... something groundbreaking (literally) happened to the American people today. Well not all of them, just one special one. Something that will stick with me forever. Something that made my day as I woke up this morning (rightly or wrongly so).

Lora lost approximately 28 litres of blood in a life threatening Amsterdam bicycle accident in the early hours of this morning. She was innocently cycling through the canals, when suddenly disaster struck!!! Ambulances, Politie and everything!!!! She even had an IV. The highlight of the whole affair was when the hospital took a large pair of sharp scissors to Lora's winter coat (and Hoodie)... and its winter.

Quote Lora - "Its a freakin IV, just pull up my sleeve"

The good news is. Lora is OK! She has a hole in her head and she is a little more crazy than yesterday, but she is ALIVE!!! (and in case you were wondering, city dogs will be safe thanks to a pile of sand on the Westerstraat covering the 28 litres).

Get Well Soon Lora.

PS: Apparently something else happened to an American today... Black guy in a White House or something.
PPS: Bike is fine

Day 4: The last few months in pictures...

I've been meaning to upload and sort out my photos for ages. So I made a good start today. I've updated some albums on my Facebook page. I will soon create a Flikr account... then everyone can be in on the action! Check my updated albums on my Facebook page..

Day 3

Day 3 (first Monday) was a morning filled with sleeping and pondering. I keep having small panic attacks worrying about what the hell I am going to do with myself!!! This morning was no different... Soooo what do you do when you are wondering about the meaning of life? Easy. Meet Lora and mix with wine.

Today is a miserable day in the Dam, perfect for sitting in the cosy corner of your favorite bar, putting the world to rights! (please note: on the back of a coaster).

A plan is beginning to emerge.

Day 2

Following Friday night busting ghosts till breakfast.. and Saturday night keeping up with the Irish boys (and a very special dinner)... Day 2 can be summarised above...

Day 1

So I decided to try my best to post something for each of the 365 days I am away.. there may be a delay (already its day 4 when I am writing this).... but I'll get there somehow :)

Day 1: Friday 31st into Saturday 1st.

I'm combining day minus 1 and day 1 together because day 1 alone is quite frankly boring. It involves me, the couch and some pyjamas.

Friday was the last day at the office. I was expecting emotion overload, tears at every turn!! But quite the opposite happened... not a tear in sight, and not even a feeling of tears at any point. My theory says there are 2 possible reasons behind this... One is scientific and one is psychological! (or psychotic?)

1: I cried like a baby from Tuesday through till the end of Thursday = No tears left.
2: I am in fact in complete denial that this is all happening, I felt like a guest at someone else's party.

Friday included a lot of boring stuff like oiling floors, handing over my car, spray painting costumes in the basement of the EC building... but also some amazing things too... some pretty special gifts from some unexpected places, some AMAZING Thai food for lunch, and my 'Surprise' drinks at the Nike pub off campus.

You know the most amazing things have come from the most unlikely places. Thanks to 2 friends who made the day really special with their thoughtful gifts and kind words! (Patagonia is on the list for sure).

The 4 o clock 'SURPRISE' drinks were also amazing. Sooooo many people! Great. Some kind words from big W, some phone calls across the Atlantic and a plethora of beers :) Good times and great gifts! WOOOO!

From the Nike Pub the day spiralled into stupidity... 4 buffoons for friends, Pizza, Duct Tape, Painting suits, Some Tubing, a lot of creativity and a lot of laughing and we came up with this... A-M-A-Z-I-N-G... Who you gonna call?
More pictures to follow soon... What a Day 1!
